This is a set of pieces created in the first half of 2012. All use 72-EDO tuning. Out of the 72 tones, I picked a ten note scale based on the undertone series plus one more note for each piece. From those ten notes, I play in a mode that includes only six notes. Some 6-note subsets are very simple and pleasing, and others are more challenging.
All make use of indeterminacy to choose the scales and rhythms in various ways. I run the score through the algorithm several times and chose one to keep. The number at the end of the titles is the version. For example, Mode for Strings #7 is the seventh time through the algorithm.
Most of the pieces use a similar technique of choosing a ten note scale, and six note subsets, and changing to a different six note subset as it moves through the piece. All are in 72-EDO, made using Csound as a sample synthesizer and my Pascal based code pre-processor.
